Thank you so much for supporting my book by reading it!* Edwin On the way to Marisol’s home, my gaze can’t help but wonder into her direction every few steps. I can’t help but feel a mysterious pull towards her. It’s telling me to get to know her, make her like me, get her to want me. But I don’t want to scare her away by coming on too strong. I’m going to take my time and start out as her friend. I spent 600 years sleeping after living a long 1,148 years of walking around and looking for somewhere to settle down. But there were more wars happening back in the day where I used to roam. It was hard to find a place and keep it untouched. So I spent my time wandering. And wandering. Until I finally decided that nothing was here for me right now. So I made the decision to go into a deep hibernation. When we dragons hibernate, it’s either because they’re grieving, healing, or wandering like me. The lost ones who haven’t found their purpose. We sleep so we can wake up in a different time, a different environment, different people. It’s a convenient coping mechanism for us dragons but we’re also prideful. A lot needs to happen for a proud dragon like me to hibernate. I was just tired of roaming. Of having no friends. No family. No goal. I have the wisdom and experience but nobody to share it with. But now that I am awake, I plan to make the most of it. When I first woke up, I was extremely confused at first. I couldn’t remember anything, like my name, where I was, what year it was, and why I was in a cave. As I emerged, I stumbled down a stepped cliff. It was a miracle I survived! But Evander had been in the area and saw the accident. He was just coming back from obtaining an egg from the village located about five miles back. When he found me after my fall, he helped me find an inn and made sure to tip the Inn keeper’s wife a big tip to help take care of me. The young man occupied me with stories of his adventures on how he obtains his eggs and gave me the backstory of how he got here. It made me want to be his friend. I’ve never met someone who made me want to befriend them. He looks hard and cunning on the outside, but he’s a good man on the inside. Someone trustworthy to keep as a friend. And I intend to stay loyal to our budding friendship. Anyways, focusing back on the present, I focus on the female Evander has introduced me to. And she’s a beauty too. Beautiful light golden hair with matching eyes that shine when the moonlight hits them. She’s got a soft looking dark complexion that has a gorgeous glow to it. With the way her collarbone is on display, she makes me want to do things. Tone it down Edwin. You’re not 300 years old anymore. “Evander told me a lot about you. He told me how you passionately saved his sister without a second thought. It made me really admire you.” I told her while adjusting the egg case, finally breaking the ice. She looks up at me with those alluring big eyes, “Oh really? Don’t think too much into it. I only did what a good fellow villager should do. This world has enough greediness as is.” Her little sister peaks around from her side. “Were you going to get a beast egg from Evander? Is that why you were going to find him?” “That is correct! I’ve been searching for a certain beast for quite a while since I’ve woken up. What about you? Why were you with him today?” Marisol pulls Lori around and places her hands on her shoulders, “Little Lorelei here is turning six in two weeks. I’ve decided to get us our first family egg as an early present.” “You’re very thoughtful. What do you do for work?” I asked, curious on how she provides for her sister and herself. “I own my own herbal medicine business. That’s how I met Evander. When I first opened, he was my very first customer.” The corners of her lips tip upwards. “And thanks to him, my clientele grew dramatically and my store was constantly full of customers browsing or looking for a small consultation.” “He’s a grateful young man. It sounds like you’re very affectionate of Evander.” Though it’s hard to spot, you can see her cheeks darken in a blush. “It may have crossed my mind. My race does happen to be one where multiple partners is normal. So it wouldn’t be too surprising if he ended up being my mate.” I felt like she’s not telling the whole truth but I’ll take what she’s willing to give me. The house finally approaches and our time together is finally up. My heart sinks just a little. I didn’t want our time to end. I wanted more time to talk with her and learn more about her. She comes to a stop and turns to Lori “What do we say Lori?” “Thank you for walking us.” She then looks at Marisol for further instruction. “Go on inside the cottage and get the ingredients out for dinner. I’ll be inside soon. I’ll just see Edwin off for us.” Marisol instructs her. She turns and walks into the house. Marisol turned to look at me, and for a moment, it felt like the whole world froze. It was just Marisol and me, staring at each other. What feels like a connection, trying to pull us closer together. Quietly, we move closer to stand closer to each other. After a moment, we’re only just a breath away from each other. More staring ensures as we both memorize each other's features. Marisol leans forward closing the gap and her lips are on mind. A force slams into me as I pull her against my body, running my tongue along her lips for entry. Her lips part and my tongue dives in, exploring./.5 every inch of her mouth. As she lets a soft moan out, we hear “Sissy! I can’t find the black beans anywhere!” She quickly pulls away and turns her head. But from the way her neck darkens, she’s trying to hide the blush I created. My heart swells with pride. I did that to my mate. My mate… My mate? My mate! I found my mate! This is why I felt such a strong pull to get to know her! This is why I didn’t want to part with her! The fates have gifted me a mate! I have to get her something! Jewelry? A dress? Sweets? She’s an herbalist, what about something tactful for work. She seems to be someone who prioritizes responsibility. Yeah, I’ll do that. She looks at me sheepishly, “I should get back to Lori. Will you be around again?” I nod my head “You don’t need to worry. I’ll definitely be back for you. However long it takes until you’re comfortable enough to take me on as a mate.” I declare. Her shoulders sag slightly, like she’s been holding back some tension. Then nods “Thank you. I appreciate you for being willing to do that for me.” My heart soars at the praise. Whatever makes her happy enough to keep me. I’ll do it. “Well then, I’ll see you around?” She says while reaching for the case. “Yes.” I say without hesitation. And then I watch her turn around and disappear into the door of her cottage. There are a lot of emotions going on inside of me right now. But all I know right now, is that I’ll do whatever it takes to get her to keep me. —— Marisol Lori and I had a relaxing evening after our lunch yesterday. I placed the egg in the small closet near the bathroom before joining Lori in the kitchen. Then we prepped the herbs for today's delivery before getting ready for the night. Now we’re about to head out the door to deliver our first package today. Maybe we’ll run into Evander or Edwin while we’re out in the district again. As we’re stepping out of the house, I look up at the sky. It looks cloudy today and the wind has picked up. Maybe I should leave Lori at home today. “Lori, how about you stay home today? Take a break? How about I stop by Lyla’s home and see if she would like to play at the cottage today?” She tilts her head up as her forehead crinkles “Mmmm, okay! She promised to show me her other frog the next time we see each other! I want to see it!” Apparently her frog fear dissolved into nothing. “Remember the rules for when I’m not home?” “Don’t answer the door to strangers. If somebody breaks in, hide in the panic room located under your bed and activate the protection spell to alert you!” I bend down to kiss her forehead “There’s some leftover bread in the cooler with some fresh berry jam I made three days ago. Eat that if you get hungry while I’m gone.” “Okay!” Walking down to Lyla’s home, the wind starts to pick up faster. An eerie feeling starts to settle all over my body. When I knock on the door to Lyla’s home, Evander answers the door where he’s first shocked, then breaks out into a gorgeous smile when he sees it’s me. “What brings you out here?” “I’m about to run out for a delivery and I told Lori to stay back with the weather looking so gloomy.” I explained to him. “And I wanted to see if Lyla would like to sit with Lori and keep each other company? She can stay over for dinner and we can have a fun sleepover?” His eyes lit up and he nodded quickly. He then quickly gestured to me inside the house. “Come inside, please. Let me call for Lyla.” I come inside and stand to the side of the stairs that are placed on the right side of the entrance. “Lyla! You have a guest asking for you!” He calls out. “Would you like me to accompany you on this delivery? You said so yourself, the weather looks bad today. It’s better to stay in twos today.” He looks outside the window by the door. “Plus, I only came to my mothers house to drop an egg off. I was just about to leave.” My nerves jump around, excited to be spending more time with Evander. “I’d love that. I was feeling nervous about this delivery trip.” I pause, then shake my head. “A bad feeling that I just can’t shake off keeps trying to override my nervous system.” I giggle nervously. He tucks me into his side and I can’t help but bury my head into his shoulder and breathe in. A honey smell mixed with vanilla . It smells like home. He then tilts my head up so he can look into my eyes. After a moment, his eyes shift darker. “Alright, I understand. I’ll be on alert when we’re out.” We hear a loud bang then door steps rushing down the stairs, breaking the tension. “Who's here?” A little voice calls out as Lyla scurries down the stairs. Her eyes brighten up when she spots me beside her brother. “Ms. Marisol! Are you here because Lori wants to play?” “I am! I’ll be stepping away from the house for a delivery and I didn’t want her to be alone. Would you accompany her while I’m gone? Maybe stay the night?” She starts jumping up and down in excitement, “I’d love too! I’m going to quickly pack a bag then!” She squeals then bolts back up the stairs to pack. “She’s a joy.” I tell Evander. “And it’s thanks to you that she’s able to be the way she is.” He takes my hand, “We really can’t thank you enough.” My eyes start to feel heavy and I have to fight for control to not cry. But it’s quickly replaced with that sense of dreadfulness that’s been haunting me all morning. I squeeze Evander’s hand and tuck myself closer to him for comfort. “So… Are we going to talk about us being mates?” Trying to distract myself, asking him how he felt about all of this seemed like the best choice. He looks down at me with an emotion that makes me squirm on the spot. “I couldn’t have been any happier than after you saved my sister. I will treasure what the fates have given me. You control the pace.” I place my cheek on his chest then look up at him. His bright blue eyes shine with affection as he stares down on me. He leans his head down very slowly until his lips lightly press against mine. I respond by opening my lips for entry. His tongue swirls along mine, causing a shiver of pleasure to shoot down my back and I grasp onto his arms tighter, pulling him closer. “EW!” Lyla screams out, causing both of us to pull apart frantically. We quickly straighten our clothes and hair out before focusing our attention back on Lyla. “I could have lived without seeing that! Gross! You could get cooties!” Lyla continues to shriek with her hand covering her eyes as she turns around in different directions, apparently not sure on where to go. With a soft laugh, Evander grabs my hand then picks up Lyla’s bag. “Come on kid, let’s drop you off with Lori so Ms. Marisol here can get her delivery finished.” “Then I can serve you two some lunch afterwards, does that sound okay?” “They say the way to a man’s heart is his stomach. I guess it must be true because now I’m looking forward to a meal made by you.” Evander declares. We’re all giggling as we secure the house and make our way back to my cottage. I just hope that desperate, foreboding feeling I keep getting haunted by isn’t as urgent as it seems. But it never happens that way, does it?

Chapter 3: What is Happening?
Marisol A delicious aroma drifts in the wind as we wait by the fountain. That smells delicious, what is it? Looking around, I try and see if I can find the stall that could be smelling this good. "Lorelei, do you smell that? It smells wonderful." She looks around and points towards a stall by the forest line. "The line by that stall is exceedingly long. Maybe it's that stall!" After a few seconds of watching the stall, I hear footsteps approach and turn around. Picking up the egg case, I stand up and watch Evander get closer as I get lost in my thoughts. How did I miss our mate bond when we've already known each other for a few years? Was that the first time we've touched each other skin to skin? How does he feel about this? But I'm glad it's Evander. I spent two years getting to know this man and watching how family-oriented he is. How responsible and enthusiastic he is about what he does. I think I can be okay with this.
